Washington, DC – This week, the Coalition for Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CCIR) is expanding its ongoing media advertising campaign with ads on the web and radio spots aimed at moving the Senate debate forward on workable, comprehensive immigration reform.
“Congress has an historic opportunity to fix our immigration system and they must not waste it. We are aggressively pursuing a multilayer media campaign to make clear to Congress that we need reform now, and we need to move forward in a way that upholds our nation’s values, honors family and protects workers,” said Clarissa Martinez of the Coalition for Comprehensive Immigration Reform. “Congress needs to act, and act now, but they must get it right.”
Coalition partners have already run a series of print ads in Florida, Pennsylvania, New Mexico and Washington DC. The coalition will also be running a week-long campaign on the web with blog ads that will run on most of the major political blogs including Washington Note, MyDD, The American Prospect, Talking Points Memo, The Moderate Voice, Firedoglake, Political Wire and Talk Left. And Radio ads will be airing on on Piolín por la Mañana in a total of 27 markets including Los Angeles, New York, Miami, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, and Houston, and Cucuy de la Mañana in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Ad # 1 (60-second spot)
ANNOUNCER: There is now a bipartisan proposal for immigration reform in the Senate.
INSERT: The plan isn’t perfect (soundbite from Kennedy)
ANNOUNCER: As Senator Edward Kennedy himself put it, the proposal is not perfect; that’s why it’s urgent to elevate our voice to achieve the improvements our community needs. The proposal includes legalization, but we have to fight to so that this legalization is really within our reach, to be allowed to reunite with our families, and to provide rights and hope to immigrants who will follow our footsteps in the future. Your participation has brought us to this point. This is the moment to achieve change, but for your Senator to make those changes, you have to speak up now. Call 1-800-882-2005 and make yourself heard, 1-800-2005.
