Rep. Shaw to Hold Ways and Means Committee Forum in South Florida on Impacts of Immigration Reform
WASHINGTON, D.C. - On August 17, 2006 Congressman Clay Shaw (R-FL) will lead a forum in Lake Worth hosted by the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee. This forum will feature local public officials who will discuss with Congressman Shaw how immigration and border security proposals would affect programs for which the Committee is responsible-including Social Security, Medicare, and welfare programs-as well the impact on South Florida families, municipalities, businesses, and government agencies.
On July 26, 2006, the full Ways and Means Committee held a hearing in Washington, D.C. to review the impact of immigration on programs in the Committee's jurisdiction. Members heard testimony from agency officials from the Department of Homeland Security, the Internal Revenue Service, the Social Security Administration and the Department of Health and Human Services.
Rep. Shaw, the Chairman of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade, organized this forum to follow up on the full Committee hearing and highlight the effects of immigration in South Florida.
